STUMPF BECOMES FIFTH WINNERS IN AS MANY WEEKS IN WIRE-TO-WIRE WIR WIN

(KAUKAUNA, WI) July 2 –Woodville’s Alex Stump became the fifth different winner in as many weeks, leading every lap en route to victory in the 35-lap super late model feature at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Thursday.

Stumpf outraced Maxwell Schultz from his pole position at the drop of the green of the 35-lap contest. The Woodville ace didn’t have much time to build upon his margin as an amber flew just two laps into the books when Corey Manders and Trevor Vandermolen tangled in turn four while battling near the tail of the field.

When racing resumed Stumpf maintained the lead with Grant Griesbach hot on his heels. By lap ten the duo has pulled away from the field slightly with Griesbach sticking within a car length or two for the next several circuits. While the pair built up a heavy margin over third place finisher and fast qualifier Jeff Van Oudenhoven, Griesbach wasn’t able to pull off a pass and Stumpf collected the checkers. Griesbach settled for second, followed by Van Oudenhoven, Maxwell Schultz who made his first appearance of 2020 and last week’s feature winner Bobby Kendall.

Neenah’s Braison Bennett motored around Oshkosh’s Chase Randerson on the final circuit to capture his first late model feature win of the season. Trailing at the checkers were Randerson, Bryan Monday, Chad Devine and Mike King.

In ¼ mile late model action an ever-growing field of 14 cars were in action in split features. When the dust settled it was a pair of old sportsman stalwarts who collected the checkers. Neenah drivers Tom Spierowski and Rick Spoo each earned feature flags.

Parity continued to prevail in the super stock class. Menasha’s Tony Wilz became the fifth different winner in as many weeks in the quarter-mile division. Chasing the second-generation driver down at the checkers were Josh Mueller, Jeff Treml, Trevor Howard and Larry Raygo who placed second through fifth, respectively.

Despite only racing on a part time basis in 2020, Menasha’s Jason Plutz, a former sport truck champion, showed his foes he hasn’t lost his touch. Plutz scored a near full straightaway win, his second of the season. Jason Van Handel took second place at the pay window, followed by Bobby Wautier, Tanner Fickel and Kody Vanderloop.

Hometown driver Jesse Nettekoven scored a popular three-wide win on the quarter-mile in the Sizzlin’ 4 class. Nettekoven came out atop a race long dogfight with Freedom’s Mitchell Opsahl, who settled for the bridesmaid spot at the checkers. Arianna Beattie took third followed by Ethan and Evan Beattie.

Veteran Terry Van Roy of Darboy won the Figure 8 feature.

Next Thursday night July 9 the track will host the White Race sponsored by Vanderloop Equipment on Scott Vanderloop Memorial Night. The Rockin’ Rovals will make their third appearance of the year. Racing gets underway at 6:45 p.m. You can check frrc.us for more information or follow the club’s Facebook page.

FOUR WEEKS – FOUR DIFFERENT WINNERS AS KENDALL PREVAILS IN WIR SUPER LATE MODEL GO

(KAUKAUNA, WI) June 25 – The “Montello Missle” Bobby Kendall snatched the lead away from Darboy’s Sawyer Effertz on a lap 11 restart and cruised to a full straightaway super late model victory at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Thursday. With his win Kendall became the fourth different winner in as many weeks in WIR’s top class.

Effertz took command of the race, leading the early going of the 35-lap contest. “The Maverick” stretched a comfortable four car length margin while Kendall and Grant Griesbach scrapped for the runnerup spot.

Effertz’ margin was erased on lap nine when Jeff Holmgren Jr. made contact with another racer, sending his machine spinning out of turn four. When racing resumed Kendall pulled door-to-door with Effertz and the pair battled for the top spot. The Montello wheelman wrestled the lead from Effertz and went to work quickly building up a sizeable lead over the balance of the field.

In the second half of the contest Freedom’s Brent Strelka charged through the pack, taking advantage of an Effertz slip in turn two to snatch second. Strelka tried reeling in the second-generation racer but the effort was futile as Kendall was not to be denied on this evening. Strelka settled for second at the pay window, followed by Jeff Van Oudenhoven, Effertz and Andy Monday rounding out the top five finishers.

Appleton’s Bryan Monday grabbed the lead on a restart on lap ten and fought off a fast-closing Eddie Muenster on the final lap to capture his third late model feature win of the season. Muenster took second at the finish line, followed by Mike King, Chad Devine and early race leader Brian Henry.

Josh Mueller of Kaukauna became the fourth different winner in as many weeks in the super stock division. Trailing at the checkers were current point leader Trevor Howard, early race leader Larry Raygo, Jeff Treml and Shane Krueger.

Just like the super stocks the sport trucks saw their fourth feature winner in as many weeks. Freedom’s Cody Vander Loop fended off Jason Van Handel and Mike Byrge to collect the checkers. Van Handel and Byrge took second and third, respectively. Last week’s winner Kylee Vandermoss and fast qualifier Bobby Wautier rounded out the top five finishers.

Appleton’s Scott Wolf padded his points lead in the Sizzlin’ 4 division. After scoring fast time earlier in the evening Wolf sliced his way through the field and wound up winning the feature, his second of the season. Trailing Wolf at the checkers were Larry Belonger, Therrien Racing, Mitchell Opsahl and Emery Beattie.

Drew Diedrich bested the other 13 contestants in the Rockin’ Roval feature while Nick Osburg won the Figure 8 main event.

Next Thursday night July 2 a huge fireworks display will take place at the conclusion of the racing program. Racing gets underway at 6:45 p.m. You can check frrc.us for more information or follow the club’s Facebook page.
